2017 Oulton Park Gold Cup
Other commitments meant that I was restricted to a flying visit to Oulton Park for the Gold Cup this year, but this didn’t mean I had to miss shooting some of the great cars in attendance at this festival of all things motorsport.
The Gold Cup is one of the biggest events held at Oulton Park, and draws a number of cars that you don’t always see at other events in the calendar, so a trip to the circuit for this is well worth the effort. The other bonus for spectators at Oulton Park is that it is one of the most open circuits for viewing the action on track. While I’ve not included any panning shots in this selection, for anyone who wants to turn their hand to motorsport photography, there is a wealth of place to stand where you have a clear view of the racing without the catch fences getting in the way.
The circuit has also seen some serious investment over the last few years, with many areas now featuring better paths for traversing around the track. If you park in the centre of the circuit you can walk to all vantage points easily and quickly, with only the very top of the track near Shell Oils corner being off limits and the nearest spectator point near Brittens being a bit of a trek up hill.
